"A
true desire is not to have but to be. We are whole
creatures in potential, and the true purpose of desire is to unfold that
wholeness, to become what we can be. As Goethe says, 'Desire is our
presentiment of our inner abilities, and the forerunner of our ultimate
accomplishments." -
Eric Butterworth, Unity Minister, Author
I always appreciate the clarity of
Dr. Eric Butterworth's writings. I want to repeat this statement
from above, "A true desire is not to have but to be."
And in this we will find our way to a prosperous life. Most of us
have experienced times in our lives when we felt the sting of financial
lack. But, I believe that if we separate our true desires from our
wishful thinking, we can find our way to receive the desires of our
heart.
Every Good desire that comes to our mind and
heart, comes with a necessary change within our consciousness. As
we know in our study of metaphysics, God can only do for us, what God
can do through us. Unless and until we "become" within,
whatever it is that our desire demands of us, it will continue to be an
unfulfilled desire. If I desire to have loving companionship, then
I must "be" a loving companion within ... I must have the
mental equivalent of it. In other words, I must understand and
become my role in my demonstration. Does this mean I
"make" things happen? No. What this means is as I
"become" the thing that I desire to "be" ... and in
doing so, I "let" the things happen that are necessary for my
desire to be fulfilled. I will attract from this state of
"being" all the people, all the opportunities, all the
conditions necessary to manifest the desire.
How to Let God Help You
by Myrtle Fillmore:
"Your prosperity comes through you instead of
to you. And if it seems not to come, that is because you have thrown up
a barrier that prevents its unfoldment through your consciousness."
(p154)
As we look at the
words of Myrtle Fillmore, we find that the barriers to our Good are
within our own consciousness ... never outside of us. As we
learned in last week's lesson, we know that we already have a
"prosperity consciousness" ... and the "seeming"
barriers are the thoughts, ideas, and beliefs that we hold about a
thing. And these barriers enter our mind from our "judging by
appearances." And this is the reason we find ourselves in
situations of financial lack, loneliness, unhealthy and unemployed.
Our mind is so fixated on the "appearance" that we forget to
identify with what we need to "be" rather than letting the
"appearance" dictate who we are. We always have more
than we see ... always more than the appearance may give evidence to.
Even if we find ourselves in the midst of the appearance of "being
broke" ... there is something "beyond broke" that we can
identify with in our consciousness. What do I mean here?
Think about it ... if our mind is filled with our desire to be
prosperous, we will not let the "appearance" tell us who we
are. A prosperous consciousness contains the "desire" to
be fulfilled. And as we identify with this desire, we are not
identifying with being broke ... and the barrier to our prosperity is
eliminated. Walt Disney declared bankruptcy several times before
he moved into success and prosperity. But, for many of us, we
would have let the first bankruptcy stop us from moving forward to
fulfill the desires of our heart.
Nothing is more powerful in our mind than
"desire" ... for our desires are from God, Infinite
Intelligence. Find a person who is living in financial struggle
and you will find a person who is lacking in desire ... or at the least,
lacking in identifying with desire. As we know that desire is
"of the Father" ... we know that there is power in our
desires. Our desire to "be prosperous" is more powerful
than any situation we may find ourselves in. Donald Trump is
another example of someone who has had his ups and downs ... but he
never let the "downs" become who he is to be.
What is it that we desire? ... and I am not
asking about "wishful thinking" ... but what are our
"true desires" ... what do we "desire to be?"
And are we cultivating these desires to the point that we are a part of
them? Or, are we still thinking that "some day" I will
"be" rich ... or "be" happy ... or whatever?
It is a trite statement, but "some day is not a day on the
calendar" ... in other words, if we are not identifying with our
desires in a real way today ... they are not our "true
desires" and we might as well forget them.
Unless we identify,
within ourselves, being something greater than what we see, we will
always be in the conditions of what we see ... or perhaps even something
less. We have riches that are "beyond broke" ... we have
it, because we can claim it in our mind. A young man told Dr.
Bitzer he was treating for money, and Dr. Bitzer asked him why?
The young man said, "because I don't have any" ... and to that
Dr. Bitzer said, "then your treatment will not work." We
can't identify with the "appearance" and expect to get more
... we must identify with that which is "beyond" what we see
... our desires ... this is where our riches are ... and our success,
our love, our joy and our everything!
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
