The Law of mind, the giant within and around us, is always creating for
us. But what specific direction are we giving it? Our every
thought
is a direction. - Ernest Holmes
As we look back at our lives we can understand how much we and the world
we live in has changed. Life is all about change and change is
consistently occurring in our material world. But beyond all that we
see, hear, feel, taste and touch.... there is that which is
change-less. And this Spirit that is
change-less is within us ... the perfect "I" of each of us, the
Impersonal you and me, that is never touched by our personal experiences,
thoughts and beliefs. The "personal" ... who we are, can
be changed. Just like the world that we see changing
constantly. But, this "Impersonal" or "what we
are" never changes, never affected as It Is Change-less. The
wonderful Unity writer, Imelda Octavia Shanklin describes this best in her
book, "What Are You?" She writes, "The personal, the
"who," can be changed. You have changed it many times, and
you will continue to change it. This is not said to indicate
reincarnation. It is said to indicate the changes that come in body,
conduct, and situation, in every life. These changes make Baby Doe
become Johnny Doe; they make Johnny Doe grow successively into Lawyer Doe,
Judge Doe, Governor Doe (etc.). In all of Johnny Doe's changes of
relationship to the world, only the "who" is concerned.
The "what" is not affected. That is changeless. It
eternally will be what it eternally has been. It is the divinity of
which Peter said in a moment of insight, "Thou are the ..... Son of
the living God." [para.]
In the fact that the personal can be changed lies your hope of
achievement. In the fact that the impersonal is changeless lies your
assurance of an attainable perfection in the realms of conscious
being. From glory to glory passes the personal in its search for the
peace-bestowing impersonal, which has its home in the heart of God. [para.]
If discouragement assails you because of environment, tradition, or
heredity, transfer your consideration from the personal to the
impersonal. You are not characterless flesh and blood, unfavorable
heredity, spineless nothingness. "Thou are the .... Son of the
living God." In your everlasting nature you are impersonal,
impregnable. Square your consideration of life by these facts,
and you will be supplied with ample courage for every demand." [end]
Everything in this Universe has this change-less quality. Hollywood
is a great example of this. In the heyday of Hollywood people
flocked to restaurants like the Brown Derby and Muso and Frank's, the
Grauman's Chinese Theatre which was owned by Sid Grauman, Mary Pickford
and Douglas Fairbanks. Sid Grauman also owned the Egyptian Theatre
which he built five years before the Chinese Theatre. Hollywood was
alive with excitement and glamour! Other
Hollywood landmarks included the Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel. Located just a block west of the Chinese Theatre, it
is one of the most historic sites on the Boulevard, and one of its few
modern success stories. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel has a long
history of catering to the show-biz elite. It was founded in 1927 by
a syndicate of Hollywood luminaries (which included Mary Pickford,

There is a
rumor (???) that the Hollywood Roosevelt is haunted, not by just
one, but by two celebrity ghosts! Montgomery Clift and
Marilyn Monroe. This should make Sundays at the Roosevelt

Fairbanks, Sid Grauman
and Louis B. Mayer) to house east coast movie-makers who were working out
here on the west coast. At its grand opening, superstars of the day
such as Will Rogers, Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Clara Bow, Greta Garbo,
and Gloria Swanson were on hand for the inaugural celebration. The
hotel's "Blossom Room" hosted the first-ever Academy Awards
ceremony on May 19, 1929. Marilyn Monroe posed on the diving board
of the hotel's swimming pool for her first-ever ad (for suntan
lotion).
Like most of the surrounding area, the grand Roosevelt Hotel went into a
decline in the 1950's. The famous Brown Derby closed several years
ago and much of the Boulevard decayed. However, the
spirit of this famous street, its grand hotels, theatres and restaurants
has come alive again. With the opening of the $600 million Hollywood
& Highland project which includes the Kodak Theatre (now home of the
Academy Awards), the Boulevard is filled with shoppers and tourists from
all over the world. The Chinese Theatre now has its original name
back, Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is
getting a face-lift and up-scale restaurants and stores are opening so
quickly you can't keep track of them. The Spirit of Hollywood has
been re-born right here on Hollywood Boulevard. This change-less
Spirit is the Life of All that We See ... change-less and
impregnable! Let's Celebrate Hollywood and this Living Spirit of the
Almighty!
And
So It Is!
