"Psalm
34:4 "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all
my fears."
- (KJV) Holy Bible
"Do not be afraid to talk to God, always remembering that
God speaks a certain kind of language and there is nothing negative in
it. We believe in prayerful, affirmative meditation above
everything else. We believe in actually talking to God and then
letting God answer. But perhaps in our confusion we talked
"at God" rather than "to" Him. We have told
Him how terrible everything is, how unhappy we are. ... Try this:
Sit or lie in complete repose, and then tell God how wonderful He is and
how glad you are, how grateful. It is at times like these that we
are really tuning in to the Divine, and the Divine will always respond
to us. We shall always receive the comfort and consolation we
need, the inward sense of security and well-being that everyone must
have to be happy and whole."
- Ernest Holmes, Living the Science of Mind
We can clearly see in the ancient
scriptures and in Dr. Holmes' words that we can talk to G-d and we are
heard and responded to. Not just some of us, but all of us, if we
use the language that gives the Infinite something definite to respond
to. As we understand that G-d and Good are the same, then we know
that the Infinite responds to that which announces the good. The
Master Mind Jesus understood this when he stated that we must speak to
what is good and beautiful ... "blessed are the pure in
heart," he said, and so we know that to be pure in heart is to live
with our mind focused on the things of the Spirit; joy, happiness,
peace, love, harmony, beauty, wisdom and abundance. G-d, being
infinite, can respond to these things for they are of the Nature of G-d.
Let's look at this in a
practical way, and let us say that two different people want a new car
and so they both pray for one. One has already taken the car of
their choice for a test drive and have truly created a mental equivalent
of having it in their mind. Now, this person's prayer would be
something like: "I am accepting for my self a beautiful and
luxurious 2010 black Cadillac Escalade. This car gives me a great
feeling of joy and happiness. I
feel so connected to the Good as I sit in this car … and I know that
joy and happiness are always G-d's desire for me. I believe that
in the Mind of G-d this car is mine and it unfolds in Divine Law and
Order, now." Since this person acted in faith and took the
car for a test drive, the words in the prayer are the truth and by
describing the feelings associated with the car, there is enthusiasm and
confidence contained in the prayer that has attracting power.
Now the second person hasn't taken
the time to choose the car that they want, they just want a new car.
Now this person's prayer would be something like: "I am
praying and believing for a car. I need a car and I hope and pray
that God blesses me with one." Now, there is no feeling
described in this prayer ... nothing about joy, happiness, love ... it
is devoid of choice, or something definite other than in a broad sense a
car. What if he or she receives a car that doesn't run? ... has
worn-out tires and leaks oil? Wouldn't that still be an answer to
the prayer? After all, it would be a car ... but who would want
that as an answer to their prayer?
Many people fail to fully entertain in their minds the things that they
pray for before they pray ... even those who believe that G-d responds
to them. In other words, we just don't spend the time necessary to
know what we really want and speak up about it, because we have failed
to be "lifted up" in our mind by the things we pray for.
To "speak up" means to be definite and specific ... not just
about the thing, but also about how it brings us closer to G-d by giving
us a greater awareness of G-d within us ... that is, the joy, happiness,
love and peace ... within us. As Dr. Holmes writes: "But
perhaps in our confusion we talked "at God" rather than
"to" Him. We have told Him how terrible everything is,
how unhappy we are." I
believe with all my heart that the Infinite desires to provide for us
all things, through Love and Law, for this allows It to express a
greater measure of Itself as us, through us ... and this means the
things of the Spirit. It does not matter whether we pray for a new
car, a new relationship, the healing of our current relationship, for
greater health, or for peace of mind ... the Infinite responds to the
"spirit" that these things awaken within us ... the joy and
happiness, peace of mind, and the love.
Let's not
allow ourselves to be distracted by the nonsense that seeking material
things is not spiritual. How else could we know that G-d wants us
to have the desires of our hearts. The Infinite has given us
enough for everyone and to share and to spare, let's not let the
foolishness of the race-mind to convince us otherwise. From the
Holy Bible (NIV): Isaiah
29:13 The Lord says: "These
people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up
only of rules taught by men."
As we
"speak up" to the joy and happiness that our desires instill
within us, we are speaking "to G-d" ... not at God.
We are putting into words what we feel, what we are enthusiastic about,
what is appealing to us, and what is bringing us a greater sense of
being One with All the Good that G-d Is. And in doing so, we are
creating an attraction within our mind to all that supports us in our
good.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
