“We
may not have found God, but that does not mean that He is not there.
We may not be able to work problems in calculus, but they can be worked.
We do not have to know the answer to know that there is an answer."
- James Dillet Freeman,
"Be!"
To affirm anything is to state that it is so, and to maintain
this as being true in the face of all evidence to the contrary.
Often we may find ourselves with little faith in our affirmations.
And especially if we are using affirmations that have been written by
someone else, we may find this to be true. Affirmations are simply
a statement that affirms that whatever we desire, that takes nothing
away from anyone else, is ours ... now. The evidence of it may not
be apparent in the physical and it will not be until we have developed
the faith to know that it is ours in the Invisible, or spiritual
dimension. Repeating our affirmations leads our mind to the state
of consciousness where it accepts that which it desires to believe.
In the ancient scriptures it is written that we
must have faith without wavering. And how do we develop this
faith? We develop it by understanding the nature of Spirit, or
God. As we know that God in-dwells All, then we know that each of
us have "volition" ... the inherent ability to
"choose." To develop our faith in our affirmations, or
to develop the faith that is unwavering ... we must realize that we can
never "choose" for someone else. No matter how much Good
we may want for someone else ... ultimately they must choose the Good
for themselves. God does not change anyone's heart ... they must
choose to change their own heart. God does not make a miserable
person happy ... they must choose to be happy. Everything is done
in Mind. And in Mind, these points are essential:
- THERE IS NO GOD
THAT MAKES CHOICES FOR ANYONE.
- WE CANNOT
CONVINCE GOD TO BETRAY ITS NATURE.
- WHAT GOD DOES
FOR ONE, IT DOES FOR ALL.
- WE NEVER
RECEIVE OUR GOOD AT ANOTHER'S EXPENSE.
- GOD'S ONLY WILL
FOR US, IF GOD HAS A WILL FOR US ...
IS THAT WE CHOOSE.
- WHAT ONE PERSON
CAN DO ... EVERYONE CAN DO.
- WHATEVER WE ASK
FOR MUST BE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE.
- GOD FAVORS NO
ONE.
- GOD NEITHER
REWARDS NOR PUNISHES.
For most of us, our
affirmations must be repeated over and over and over and over ... and
again. This is especially true if the evidence in the physical
greatly contradicts that which we are affirming. This same
"repetitiveness" may also be necessary when we use spiritual
mind treatment. That old adage, "I'll believe it when I see
it" ... is so ingrained that it does not always dissolve quickly.
Using affirmations, we must "believe it and then we see it"
... which is a complete contradiction of what we have
"learned" in our culture. And another stumbling block
for so many, is that affirmations just seem "too good to be
true" ... affirmations are only as good as we think they are ... as
we choose to believe that our affirmation is doing its perfect work and
never deny that this is so, we will experience the good result.
The truth of affirmations was impressed on my
mind during one of Dr. Robert Bitzer's Sunday services at the Hollywood
Church of Religious Science. He told the story of a young man who
came to him and told him that he was trying to demonstrate money.
Dr. Bitzer asked him why was he trying to demonstrate money, and the
young man said, "because I don't have any" ... and Dr. Bitzer
said that is why you don't . The young man's reply revealed his
subconscious belief about money. Now, if instead, the young man
had said, "because all that the Father hath is mine" ... then
money would soon be flowing into his life ... because his subconscious
and conscious mind would be in agreement.
We use our conscious mind
to speak an affirmation ... but, we must speak it and repeat it until
our subconscious is in agreement. Repeating the affirmation leads
the mind to accept the thing that we choose to experience. And
when this happens, the "Spirit will move through our
consciousness" ... and the demonstration is made. "When
Deep calls unto Deep, there is a simultaneous agreement."
And then we can say with great joy, "the Spirit moved me."
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
