"15.
Whatever enters the
mind through the senses or the objective mind will impress the mind and
result in a mental image which will become a pattern for the creative
energies. These experiences are largely the result of environment,
chance, past thinking and other forms of negative thought, and must be
subjected to careful analysis before being entertained. On the
other hand, we can form our own mental images through our own interior
processes of thought regardless of the thoughts of others, regardless of
exterior conditions, regardless of environment of every kind, and it is
by the exercise of this power that we can control our own destiny, body,
mind and soul. 16. It is by the exercise of this power that we take our
fate out of the hands of chance, and consciously make for ourselves the
experiences which we desire, because when we consciously realize a
condition, that condition will eventually manifest in our lives; it is
therefore evident that in the last analysis thinking is the one great
cause in life."
- Charles
Haanel, The Master Key System, page 76
The
man on the telephone told me that he was seeking help with his finances
and he told me that it was an urgent matter. Before I could ask a
question he went into a discourse of how his business had been
successful, telling me that he was a good businessman. But, he
said, everything wrong that could happen began to happen. He
became late with his payments to his vendors but that wasn't his fault
as their products had decreased in quality and people were just not
buying them like they used to. His employees couldn't be trusted
to do a full day's work for a full day's pay unless he was there to
supervise them and most of them resented him for not giving them raises
and so they did only what was necessary. His wife was spending
just as much money as when the business was thriving but he was afraid
to question her about it as their marriage wasn't so good right now.
He lived in fear each day that he would end up in bankruptcy or get sued
by the people he owed money to. He was angry with the government
for bailing out Wall Street and the banks and leaving the "little
guy" hopeless. He had told all this so many times to so many
people ... that he had forgotten that he had already told me this a
month ago ... and the month before that.
The man I wrote about above has made his
story his reality. As we look at his words we realize that his
mind has been overtaken by fear and isolation. He fears that which
has not happened yet and he has isolated himself from his Good by
building a brick wall in his mind that blocks his solutions from his
awareness. His case is extreme and an example of what happens when
we do not confront the negative thoughts, ideas and beliefs that arise
in our mind. They do not go away, they become more powerful ...
and we become convinced that they are the truth.
The Master Mind Jesus taught that what we
resist, persists ("resist not evil"), and he was correct.
But, dismissing negative thoughts and ideas does not help us either.
We must "convince" ourselves that they are not true, even when
they appear to be inconsequential. Whenever we accept anything
negative in our consciousness, it will come back to us as the
subconscious accepts our beliefs and acts on them automatically.
The only thing that dissolves the negative is the Truth. And we
arrive at the Truth through intelligent reasoning; i.e. is this idea or
thought constructive or destructive? That which is the Truth is
always constructive ... always life enhancing. At first this may
appear to be difficult, but in truth most of us do not have that many
negative thoughts or beliefs.
Since we live in Omnipresent Good, G-d, we can know
that there is good in the negative thoughts and beliefs that come to our
awareness. They have come to our attention to be healed ... for us to
put greater concentration in our thoughts and imagination on the Good.
If we eliminate every thought of lack that arises in our conscious mind,
we will never know poverty. If we never allow a seeming image of
lack to become real in our mind, we will never know poverty. If we
never accept lack as the truth, we will never know poverty. The
subconscious cannot produce something for us that we do not accept or
believe to be true about ourselves or someone else.
Thought is the energy by which the Law of
Attraction is brought into operation. Emerson wrote, "There
is no thought in my mind but it quickly tends to convert itself into a
power and organizes a huge instrumentality of means." And the
reason that Emerson can state this, is because each passing thought of
lack attaches itself to the other thoughts of lack we have had and not
eliminated, and becomes a pattern of thought, which creates a belief,
which the subconscious acts upon automatically.
We
have the power to win over the negatives ... this power is our ability
to think and to reason ... but we must be conscious of this power ...
and the only way to become conscious of it is to use it, and as the
great metaphysician Charles Haanel tells us, if we don't use it, we
shall lose it. The Science of Mind teaches us to be conscious of
our thoughts: "change your thinking, change your life"
... no one has the power to do this for us ... for all the power
necessary to do so is within us, now.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
