"...
the great Love of the Universe must be One with the great Law of Its Own
Being, and we approach Love through the Law. This, then, is the
teaching: Love and
Law. As
the love of God is perfect, so the law of God also is perfect. We
must understand both.”
- The Science of Mind, page 26
"And
Jesus said, "make the men sit down." Now there was much
grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five
thousand. And
Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to
the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and
likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were
filled, he said unto his disciples, "gather up the fragments that
remain, that nothing be lost.”
- Holy Bible, John 6:10-12
This week I begin my annual review of the first
four introductory chapters of "The Science of Mind." I
do this because the basic ideas of the science of mind is often as
misunderstood as the teachings of the Master Mind Jesus. When the
Radical Jesus stated, "be
in the world but not of the world" he
was defining metaphysics ... and that is how I define the science of
mind, it is metaphysics. According to the World Dictionary,
metaphysics is defined as: "thebranchofphilosophythatdealswithfirstprinciples,esp.ofbeingandknowing."
The Master Mind Jesus revealed metaphysics to the world over 2,000 years
ago. Dr. Holmes compiled his masterpiece of metaphysics in written
form in 1926 and titled it "The Science of Mind," and in this
incredible piece of work he recognizes Jesus as a metaphysical genius.
"You will know
the Truth, and the truth will set you free,"
stated the Radical Jesus ... but, it may have been better if he had
added; "if you
will just stop seeking the Truth and practice the truth that you already
know." The
philosophy of Jesus, like the Science of Mind, must be demonstrated, put
into practice ... become a "living thing" within our
consciousness.
Truth is Absolute. H. Emile Cady, the
great Unity teacher and author, stated: "There is
a straight white line of absolute Truth upon which each one must walk if
he would have demonstration (experience the Truth). The slightest
swerving in either direction from this line results in
non-demonstration, no matter how earnest or intense one may be."
Similar statements in the Holy Bible, the Torah ... and the Science of
Mind, reiterate these words from Ms. Cady. In other words, we must
know what we want to do, to be, or to have and we must not only have
faith that these things can be ours, we must activate within our mind
the feeling and the image that creates a realization within us that it
is ours ... unfolding through Love and Law from the un-Seen into
physical.
In this first introductory chapter, "The
Thing Itself" of The Science of Mind, we find great similarities
with the teachings of the Master Mind Jesus. The following are
just those found in this first chapter of the Science of Mind:
Science
of Mind, page 26 -
"Universal principles are never respecters of persons; the Universe
has no favorites."
Philosophy
of Jesus, Matthew
5:45 - "That you may be the children of your Father which is in
heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and
sends rain on the just and on the unjust."
Science
of Mind, page 28 -
"Since some people have been healed through prayer, while others
have not, the answer is NOT that God has responded to some and not to
others, but that some have responded to God more than others.
Their prayer (their thought) has responded by corresponding."
Philosophy
of Jesus, Luke
12:29-31 - "And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall
drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the
nations of the world seek after and your Father knoweth that ye have
need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and
all these things shall be added unto you."
Science
of Mind, page 30 -
"There is one Mental Law in the Universe, and where we use it, it
becomes our Law because we have individualized it."
Philosophy
of Jesus, John 16:15
- "Everything which the Father has is mine: that is why I say, He
will take of what is mine and will make it clear to you."
Science
of Mind, page 32,33 -
"Learning to trust will make us happy. ... When we learn to trust
the Universe, we shall be happy, prosperous and well. ... God is always
God. No matter what our emotional storm, or what our objective
situation, may be, there is always something hidden in the inner being
that has never been violated. We may stumble, but always there is
that Eternal Voice, forever whispering within our ear..."
Philosophy
of Jesus, Luke 12:32
- "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to
give you the kingdom."
Science
of Mind, page 33,34 -
"Divine Nature Is in Everyone." ... "There is The Thing
Itself." ... "There is that within every individual which
partakes of the nature of the Universal Wholeness and - in so far as it
operates - is God. That is the meaning of the word Emmanuel,
the meaning of the word Christ. There is that within us
which partakes of the nature of the Divine Being, and since it partakes
of the nature of the Divine Being, we are divine."
Philosophy
of Jesus, John 10:34
- "Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye
are gods?" ... John 14:10 - "Believest thou not that I am in
the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I
speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the
works."
"And
Jesus said, "make the men sit down"
...
he wanted the people to be "conscious" of what he was doing
... to give this demonstration their full attention. And let us
not forget, "these things I do and
greater things still shall you do."
Both the philosophy of Jesus and the science of mind tell us that there
is a Power Greater than we are, that is available to us ... it is no
respecter of persons nor a respecter of conditions. It works for
us, through us, always has and always will. It is up to us to
determine the results of this work.
The Science of Mind agrees with the Radical
Jesus and all the great mystics that have told us; that we are created
in the image and likeness of G-d ... that we are Spirit, not mere flesh
and blood ... and that we live and move and have our being in Spirit, in
Mind." But, it is not enough to accept this intellectually.
We must be so convinced of this that there is absolutely no argument
within our mind against this, the greatest of Truth. As
Dr. Holmes stated: "truth known is truth demonstrated."
We cannot divorce our faith from our works or our works from our faith.
And I repeat, "Learning To Trust Will Make Us Happy."
Trust in the Truth that you know ... live it to the fullest ... keep
faith with the Truth, with G-d, and with who you truly are ... and then,
and only then, will the Truth set you free ... free to be in the world,
but not of the world.
